Writing Fiction at Rathfinny Wine Estate
During these dark winter days I’m loving all the twinkling lights of London and looking forward to spending time with friends and family over Christmas and the New Year. It’s been a wonderful start for Words Away, thanks to all the support from the fantastic guest authors and community of writers who’ve come along.
Now that our new season of salons for 2017 are arranged, I’m thinking ahead to 17th - 19th March and our residential writing retreat at Rathfinny Wine Estate. I’m really thrilled to be hosting the retreat alongside guest tutor, Emma Darwin. We’ve put together a program to inspire any writer in need of a little time, space and a bit of spoiling.
One of the best things about a retreat is being looked after while you're taking a break from the everyday. It gives you a chance to reflect and recharge. Our accommodation, the Flint Barns at Rathfinny, is perfect for this. Writing workshops will take place in the mornings while, after a light lunch, the afternoons are yours to do as you wish. There will be time to sign up for a one to one with Emma to chat about your WIP or writing concerns. Otherwise curl up in front of the fire in a snug corner with a notepad or a book. Or bring your walking boots and set out on the Rathfinny Trail to walk the beautiful South Downs. You might prefer to head into nearby historic Alfriston to explore the pretty village and its shops, cafes and pubs. Browse the charming independent bookshop, Much Ado, which sells new and second hand books. Or seek out Charleston, beloved country home of the Bloomsbury set, a short drive away.
Wander your way back to the Flint Barns for afternoon tea and quiet time before we gather for an evening drink followed by dinner. Single occupancy rooms are available or why not buddy up with a writing friend for the shared room rate? Treat yourself and concentrate on your writing at the same time. We’ll supply the superb accommodation, delicious home cooked meals and lots of writing inspiration and support. All you have to do is book and come along.
